22 September 2009 in the Cinema Arkaden, Davos, Switzerland
'The Age Of Stupid' is the new cinema documentary from the Director of 'McLibel' and the Producer of the Oscar-winning 'One Day In September'. This enormously ambitious drama-documentary-animation hybrid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching "archive" footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance? Global Risk Forum GRF Davos held a screening for this film on 22 September 6 pm in Davos, which was free for the public to attend. The screening was followed by a discussion.
Almost 200 people followed the invitation of the Global Risk Forum GRF Davos for the premiere of the Film “The Age of Stupid”. The response was very positive, and everyone was impressed about the film, the facts presented and the presentation of the film maker’s outlook to the future. In the discussion chaired by Walter Ammann, CEO of the Global Risk Forum GRF Davos, and containing the panelists Jakob Rhyner, CEO WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF Davos, Dr. Werner Schmutz, CEO of the World Radiation Center PMOD/WRC Davos, and Maurus Radelow, Student of the Davos Highschool, there was the question of limit the consumption of CO2 for every person and company, about the responsibility and power of politics, economics and science as well about the responsibility of each single person. Is this perspective too pessimistic? Are we too optimistic? What can I do? What am I willing to do?
On most of these questions, an answer couldn’t be found. However, perhaps now everyone is a little bit more aware of the seriousness of the situation.
